Complex neurodevelopmental disorder and eligible disability changes to MBS items

This page provides details of the 1 March 2023 changes to MBS items relating to Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders and eligible disabilities

From 1 March 2023, the age of eligibility to receive Medicare rebates for a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder or Eligible Disability will lift from under 13 to under 25. Additionally, terminology has been updated from “Pervasive Developmental Disorder” to Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder to reflect contemporary language.

The number of assessment services has increased from 4 to 8 and the list of eligible disabilities has been expanded. These changes have been made as the result of recommendations from the MBS Review Taskforce and consultation with stakeholders.
