XMLFile released 28 May 2026, effective 1 July 2026.

Note dated 28 May 2026: The department recently identified that items 5200, 5203, 5207, 5208 and 5209 were incorrectly indexed from 1 July 2025 due to an administrative error. To align with legislation, the department has reflected the fees in this revised MBS fee file. The correct Schedule Fee and corresponding 100% benefit for these items are as follows: 5200 - $21.00, 5203 - $31.00, 5207 - $48.00, 5208 - $71.00 and 5209 - $122.40.

File released on 17 June 2026, effective upon commencement of the Health Insurance Legislation Amendment (Assignment of Medicare Benefits) Act 2024.

Note: This file includes 1 July 2026 updates to the MBS with information on Assignment of Benefit basic service description for the relevant items listed in the General Medical Services Table (GMST) and 3C Determinations.

Viewing the XML In order to view the XML you will need to right click on the document link and select the "save link" option. Once saved you will be able to open the document from it's saved location.

Exporting into Microsoft Excel
To export the XML into Microsoft Excel you will need to follow the below steps:
    1. Save the XML file to your computer
    2. Open Excel and from the toolbar select File, Open, find the XML you saved and select "open"
    3. This will import the XML file into a new worksheet. Select "as an XML table", click ok, then ok again.

MBS Book Creation
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing currently publishes the MBS Book in March, July and November each year.

If you would like a complete list of all current MBS item numbers in the MBS Book format outside of this time, you may wish to use the create publication function at https://www9.health.gov.au/mbs/createPublication.cfm. Further instructions on how to create this is available on the create publication page.
